Who doesn’t like chocolates? Well, most people would especially kids. The Quahs were invited to attend a chocolate making workshop at Harriston Signature, a local Malaysian chocolate emporium that makes and distributes chocolates.

Other than selling chocolates, Harriston run DIY chocolate workshops, run their cafe at retails outlets and customize chocolates for special events. There are many reading materials around the venue that give you lots of information about chocolate and chocolate making.

If you are ever at any Harriston retail outlets, you HAVE TO try their chocolate drink. It is super yums although too much can make you feel too “jelak” since it is super rich & creamy.

You can sample some of their chocolates as they have a wide variety to suit everyone’s taste. Personal preference is the coffee chocolate. It has a really strong espresso taste – it is so good! Another favourite and also one of Harriston’s signature chocolate is their ruby chocolate, which was recently launched and in partnership with Barry Callebaut, a world leading chocolate manufacturer.

The chocolate DIY workshop is held at the 1st floor of the building. Everything is prepared for you, so whether you are terrible at cooking, craftwork or not, it doesn’t matter. Even if you mess up, you can always ask for assistance, or a little more ingredients to salvage your work.

There is demonstration before each chocolate is made since we were suppose to make a few different types of chocolates, from lollipop chocolate to small chocolate cups. We used 4 different types of Harriston chocolate: dark, milk, white, and their signature ruby chocolate.

OK, maybe our handiwork isn’t that great, but I had fun, and the kids had loads of fun. If ever I have a birthday party for one of the kids next time, I might think of having a fun workshop here! This is especially fun for older kids compared to some other places where some of the older ones or teens might feel it too childish for them.

The younger ones were given a little wooden stool to stand on so that they can reach the working table. I had some fun bonding time with #bbquah as well as she decorated the chocolate pieces since decorating doesn’t need as much fine motor skills as actually shaping and pouring the melted chocolate.
