Trying to build the confidence of a child is not an easy task. Sometimes, no matter what you say, they still won’t be fully confident in their own abilities, especially if it is all just words. So, what can we do next? Well, a fun way to build the confidence of a child is to place them in an environment that allows them to be placed in the forefront, but in a comfortable and fun environment, which was what we experienced with #bbQuah when we took her to attend The Dance Project at The Parenthood Wellness, Sunway Pyramid.

Kinderdance Children Dance Program

We got a chance to experience all the programs offered at The Parenthood Wellness. Its flagship program dubbed as Kinderdance, is well-known as the number one rated children dance program in the United States that offers developmental dance, motor development, gymnastics, fitness programs for young children. Usually this program can only be found in selected preschool and daycare centres, however, Kinderdance is now available for walk-in parents and children at The Parenthood.

A Variety of Dance

In all honesty, children nowadays tend to be passive, spending most of their time indoors in the company of a gadget. With this kind of program, kids will be able to enjoy a more active lifestyle and to be more expressive.

#bbQuah is a good example of an indoor child. Although she is usually quite a chatty little thing at home, she is actually quite shy and can be a scaredy-cat. However, she actually enjoyed the dance session though it took her a while to warm up to it. She kept going on and on about wanting to dance, but when at the class itself, she retracted and stuck to me like a koala.

What got her to warm up was the fun factor during the class. The instructor was fun and spoke to the children in a manner they can understand and relate to, so to not feel intimidated. Even when the kids got distracted, they eventually got pulled back into participating. Of course it was easier with the older ones than the younger ones, but generally it wasn’t chaotic as one might expect in a class full of kids (and parents).

#bbQuah was pretty excited about the cute Kinderdance costume when she got it, however, after wearing it, she got shy. Lol. It was a little big for her little stature, but thankfully I always have a stash of rubberbands in my bag for times like these. She looks absolutely adorable though!

The other kids enjoyed the dance sessions much more; both boys and girls. The Kinderdance program consists of a variety of dance types such as the basics of ballet, tap, gymnastics, creative movement, motor development skills and fitness while learning elements such as language, numbers, colors, shapes and songs.

For Children and Parents

Kinderdance is mainly for children with 3 programs catering for different age groups:

  • Kindertots (age 24-36 months) is designed to develop the total child through gross motor skills, movement creativity, physical development and body awareness while learning numbers, colours, shapes and songs.
  • Kinderdance (ages 3-6) is a developmental dance, motor development and fitness program taught on 3 levels, teaching the basics of Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics and Creative Movement while blending educational concepts.
  • Kids Yoga by Kinderdance (ages 4-7) is designed to energize, strengthen and relax your kids with child friendly music, playful movement and imaginative activities incorporating yoga poses.
  • Bolly Shape (adults and kids ages 7 and above) is a 60-minute, follow along, cardio dance fitness class, with a combination of low to high intensity routines that is set to the
catchy, upbeat music & energetic rhythms.

During our experience, we had a chance to try out all the different programs. #bbQuah took a while to warm up but she enjoyed the sing-a-long dances most as she recognized the songs used such as “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. Yoga was a little unfamiliar and tougher for her, but the older kids were happily stretching as if it was a regular occurrence.
