My Little Pony is not just for little girls; or maybe it is but since we grew up with it, even at this age we would still find them cute. Well, my friends and I were super excited when we found out about Colourpop collaboration with My Little Pony, with an entire makeup series dubbed My Little Pony x Colourpop. I didn’t manage to buy the whole collection since I am quite tight on finances now, but since I have a thing for eye shadow palettes, I gave in to temptation and bought the Shadow Palette.

Packaging

Surprisingly, the ponies used in all the art and design of the palette and overall packaging is of the old season. The little figurines I’ve placed in the photos are of the newer “Friendship is Magic” Generation 4 series, whereas the ones used for the My Little Pony x Colourpop are from the Generation 3 design. Anyway, packaging of the palette is simple and cheap, being made of cardboard instead of those premium styled plastic ones. Considering the price point, the packaging is actually decent.

Pigment and Colour

Generally, the colours of this palette is split between matte and glitter. There are both warm and cool colours, so it is up to you how you mix them. The glittery highlights are quite shiny so use with care so you don’t look like a mirror. It isn’t as pigmented as I would like, but then I can’t compare them to premium brands. The colours are not too strong, so it is suitable for those who don’t feel comfortable with strong eye makeup.

Swatch

The colours of the eyeshadow palette have pony-like names although I can’t help but think how similar the names are to Gen-4 ponies instead of Gen-3. Anyway, I’ve done a swatch and this is taking indoors using a large window with natural light as a light source.

The colours are not too dark, and the sparkly ones really do have quite a bit of glitter. If you want a more dramatic look, you can do wet brush application where you use a damp brush, dab on the glittery shadow, and apply in dabbing motion.

Bonus

If you have gotten the entire My Little Pony x Colourpop set, you would get a cool My Little Pony makeup bag, and this Pressed Powder Highlighter in Trickles. I managed to snag this since #bffmelaka Jerine got the entire set and gave me these two bonus. Luv you!

The highlighter has a shimmery colour and is really light. The trick about highlighters is use sparingly or you will look oily.

The bag is cute and large enough to put your stash of essentials. It is super cute with pretty My Little Pony elements.

Pricing

So, how much would the damage to your wallet be? To purchase the My Little Pony x Colourpop sets or individual palettes, you would have to buy from overseas online. There isn’t a local reseller or agent. The entire My Little Pony x Colourpop Collection kit costs $110 (≈RM465), while the My Little Pony x Colourpop Shadow Palette costs $16 (≈RM67), and the Pressed Powder Highlighter costs $8 (≈RM33.80). You can order from Colourpop Official Website and they even ship worldwide.

By the way, here is a photo I took when playing around with the shadow palette. Lighting isn’t perfect, but you can see how glittery and subtle it is, that you won’t be too scared to use shimmery shadows in your look.
